Bronx, N.Y. - Paced by junior Ethan Clary and sophomore Kathryn Fanning, the UAlbany men's and women's cross country programs posted top five finishes at the Iona College 17th Annual John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions on Saturday morning at Van Cortlandt Park. UAlbany's men's team finished third and the women's team finished fourth among the 19 competing schools.
The Iona men's and women's team finished first overall with 19 and 84 points, respectively. Leonard Korir of Iona took the individual title for the men with a 24:28 time on the 8,000-meter course. Hollie Rowland of Iona finished first on the women's side with a 21:28 6,000-meter time.
Clary ran the men's course in 25:15.18 to place seventh among 222 runners while teammate senior Chris Burke finished a few seconds later (25:20.60) to place eighth. Aliaksandr Leuchanka (11. 25:29.07), Paul Lagno (12. 25:31.26), and Chris Buchanan (36. 26:23.48) complete the men's top five.
Fanning edged the fifth place finisher by one second with a 22:33.36 course time. There would be a large gap of finishers before the next Great Dane, junior Emily Finnegan finished 17th overall at 23:07.00 and second for UAlbany. Melissa Del Rosario (22. 25:15.03), Ada Lauterbach (28. 23:31.09), and Miranda McConnell (34. 23:40.50) round out the top five UAlbany women's finishers.
The Great Danes will return to action on Saturday, October 1 at the Greater Louisville Classic at Sawyer State Park, Louisville, Kentucky.
