SHORT STORY: In their second consecutive match, rookies Owen Stachlik and Arianna Verardi led their respective teams in the seeded races at the Jasper Invitational, Saturday morning.Â
KEY NOTES
- This was the first time the Great Danes competed in the Jasper Invitational in over 20 years.
- All five of the men's scorers finished in the top half of 201 runners.
- The women's scoring gap was 2:08.3.
- The men's scoring gap was 1:19.9.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The men's team raced first on Saturday morning at the Jasper Fall Invitational at Twins Ponds in Montgomery, N.Y.Â
- Freshman Owen Stachlik finished as the top score for the men's cross country team. Placing 24th overall, covering the distance in 26:46.5.Â
- Sophomore Jerry Lewis finished next for the Great Danes placing 44th in 26:16.6. He was followed by Nikolas Christian in 47th at 26:17.1.
- The scorers were rounded out by Shane LaFountain (96th, 27:05.9), Gabriel Spanbauer (97th 27:06.4). Â
- In the women's cross country race, Arianna Verardi finished 46th in the 6000m with a time of 22:52.1.
- Hannah Steiner (24:34.9) and Olivia Snodgrass (24:39.3) finished next in 111th and 114th respectively.Â
- The scorers were rounded out by Cara Mastan (127th, 25:01.3), Aiva Pinches (133rd, 25:10.7).
NEXT:Â UAlbany will take a mid-season break before returning to action for the Hopkinton Cross Country Festival on October 10. At this race, the Great Danes will get a first look at the America East Championship course in Contoocook, N.H.
