Three Great Danes Selected in 2023 NLL Entry Draft

TORONTO – Three members of the University at Albany men's lacrosse program were selected in the 2023 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft on Saturday.  Graydon Hogg and Jake Piseno went to the Rochester Knighthawks, and Elijah Gash went to Panther City LC.

Hogg, an attack/midfielder from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, was selected in the first round, 15th overall.  Hogg appeared in 11 games for the Great Danes in 2023, scoring 19 goals and adding four assists.  He earned America East All-Conference Second Team honors, was named SUNY Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and was a finalist for the America East Man of the Year Award, the highest individual honor bestowed by the conference.

Piseno, a long stick midfielder from Liverpool, N.Y., was selected in the third round, 35th overall.  Piseno was named 2023 America East Defensive Player of the Year and garnered All-America Honorable Mention accolades from Inside Lacrosse, USILA, and USA Lacrosse Magazine.  Additionally, Piseno earned All-ECAC, America East All-Tournament, and America East All-Conference First Team honors.  He ranked second nationally, causing 3.12 turnovers per game, and set new program career and single-season records in caused turnovers.  Piseno was named to the Haudenosaunee roster for the 2023 World Championships, where he earned a bronze medal and was named Best Defender and All-World.

Hogg and Piseno join a Knighthawks roster that features UAlbany alumnus Connor Fields, whose Archers of the Premier Lacrosse League will play for the championship on September 24.

Gash, a defender from South Lyon, Mich., was selected in the third round, 46th overall.  Gash was previously selected in last year's draft by the Georgia Swarm, alongside teammate Teioshontathe McComber, but Gash's selection was voided because Gash had only utilized three years of eligibility.  Last season, Gash earned America East All-Conference Second Team honors, scoring six goals, winning 31 ground balls, and causing 18 turnovers in 14 games.  After the season, he was picked 30th overall in the PLL College Draft to the Whipsnakes LC.

The Knighthawks, in their third season in the league in 2023, went 10-8 overall to finish fourth in the Eastern Conference.  Their season ended in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal round to the eventual league champion Buffalo Bandits.

Panther City LC, in their second season in the league in 2023, finished third in the Western Conference after going 10-8 overall.  Their season ended in the Western Conference Quarterfinals to the Calgary Roughnecks.
