ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany's
Katie Falotico was named to the Capital District Sports Women of the Year Class of 2022. Falotico is one of three collegiate award winners in 2022.
The Capital District Sports Women of the Year organization (CDSWOY) honors the best and brightest female student-athletes from high schools and colleges in the Capital District of New York State. The student-athletes are recognized for their achievements in academics, athletics, and community service.
Throughout her career as a Great Dane, Falotico has served as one of the top student-athletes on the softball team. In her final year alone, she ranked 10th in the nation in doubles per game and 37th in triples per game. A three-time America East First Team honoree, she led the America East Conference in doubles and triples, finished second in hits, and ranked third in batting average, slugging percentage, RBI, and total bases in 2022. A starter for the Great Danes, she helped lead the team to a top-three ranking in most major statistical categories for the second-straight season.
Following the 2022 season, Falotico's career as a student-athlete was highlighted as she was selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team. The 2022 America East Elite-18 Award Winner, Falotico was a four-time conference All-Academic Team.
Graduating with a degree in Business Administration in January 2021, Falotico recently graduated with her graduate degree in Organizational Communication (May 2022). A four-time member of the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll, she was named to UAlbany's Dean's List seven times.
Falotico's accomplishments on the field and in the classroom are only emphasized by her community service work. Named the Community Engagement Chair on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in the fall of 2019, she held the position for three years. An America East Helping Hands award winner, she led her fellow student-athletes in efforts including a toy drive, can drive, and local elementary school readings as well as organizing SAAC's annual cornhole and dodgeball tournaments.
Falotico, along with the rest of the CDSWOY Class of 2022, will be honored at the awards gala on Monday, August 8. The Grand Collegiate Capital District Sports Woman of the Year will be announced during the gala.
