Softball Walks it Off in First Game Against UMass Lowell

SHORT STORY: The Great Danes prevailed in a tight, eight-inning matchup with the River Hawks on Friday afternoon. 

KEY STATS
  • Junior Taylor Quinn led the team with three RBI, all of which came from a fifth-inning home run. 
  • Freshman Katie Parisi also had a home run, as well as two RBI. 
  • Sophomore Mary Kate Murray led the team with two hits, including one double. 
  • Sophomore Hailey Errichiello pitched three scoreless innings to start the game off for UAlbany. 
  • Freshman pitcher Julia Pike came in to finish the game and recorded four strikeouts and no walks. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sara Anderson and Mary Kate Murray combined for a double play to get the first two outs of the game. 
  • Julia Pike led off for UAlbany with a single, before scoring on a sac fly by Anderson. 
  • Both teams were able to put runners on base in the second inning, but neither were able to bring anyone home.
  • In the bottom of the third, Katie Parisi hit a two-run homer to extend the Great Danes' lead to 3-0. 
  • UMass Lowell gained momentum with a four-run inning in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. 
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Taylor Quinn hit a three-run home run to give the lead back to UAlbany, 6-4. 
  • The Riverhawks scored the tying runs in the top of the sixth. 
  • The seventh inning saw both teams land runners on base, but no one made it home, which sent the game into extra innings. 
  • Sophomore Sara Scozzari hit a walk-off single to score Pike and seal the game for the Great Danes in the eighth. 

NEXT: Due to the cold expected tomorrow, the Great Danes will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Sunday (Mar. 29).
