Three Former Great Danes Join Active Rosters in Major League Lacrosse

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Three former Great Danes have joined active rosters to begin the 2016 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) season as teams announce their players for opening weekend.
Matt Garziano and Matthew Bertrams, former UAlbany midfielders who both finished their college careers in 2015, will join the Chesapeake Bayhawks while former Great Dane attack Ty Thompson, who finished at UAlbany in 2014, rejoins the Rochester Rattlers.
Garziano, a former free agent, and Bertrams, picked up by Chesapeake in the MLL supplemental draft, tried out for the team during training camp and made the active roster. Thompson, a member of the Rattlers since being drafted by the team in 2014, earned a spot back onto the team.
It is Garziano's first time on an active roster in the MLL.
“I'm really excited about being a part of a great organization,” said Garziano. “I'm ready to extend my lacrosse career into the professional level and extremely grateful for the opportunity given to me.”
The MLL is the professional field lacrosse league based in North America with nine teams. All teams have active rosters of 25 players.
Rosters around the MLL are continuing to be released as opening weekend, which starts on April 23rd. One such team yet to announce its 25-man active roster is the Florida Launch, which is expected to have UAlbany alumni Lyle Thompson, Miles Thompson and Brett Queener.
