WASHINGTON – UAlbany lacrosse players Connor Fields and Sarah Martin have been named to the 2017 Tewaaraton Watch lists, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced on Tuesday night.
Fields has been named to the men's watch list while Martin is on the women's watch list. Each are one of 50 across the country on their respective watch lists.
The Tewaaraton Trophy is given to the top player in college lacrosse. On the men's side, UAlbany's Miles and Lyle Thompson shared the 2014 Tewaaraton Trophy, with Lyle winning it outright in 2015.
The UAlbany men's lacrosse team has had at least one player on the watch list each of the past 11 years. Fields is earning a spot on the watch list for the second year running.
The UAlbany women's lacrosse team now has had a player on the Tewaaraton Watch List the past four years and second year in a row on the first list of 50. Martin earns her first placement on the list.
Fields, a junior attack, earned 44 goals and 29 assists last season for UAlbany. The 2016 USILA Third Team All-American has 14 points through two games this season off six goals and eight assists, including a 10-point game at Drexel.
Martin, a senior midfielder, finished last season with 30 goals, 28 assists, 55 draw controls, 19 caused turnovers and 38 ground balls. The 2016 IWLCA All-Region player has 18 goals, six assists and 18 draw controls this year, notching a 10-goal game vs. Yale.
After watch list additions on March 16th and April 6th, the field will be narrowed to 25 nominees on each the men's and women's side. Five finalists on each side with be announced on May 11th, with the 17th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony being on June 1st in Washington, D.C.
