Iroquois Nationals Full Press Release
ONONDAGA NATION, N.Y. – UAlbany men's lacrosse alumni Lyle Thompson and Miles Thompson have been selected to play on the Iroquois Nationals roster for the 2015 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Indoor Lacrosse Championship next month.
The Thompson brothers will be part of an Iroquois Nationals squad that will serve as the host team of the tournament. The Iroquois Nationals have been the runner-up of the tournament in 2003, 2007 and 2011, the first three official indoor championships of the FIL.
Lyle Thompson just finished his career with UAlbany, going down as one of the top collegiate lacrosse players of all-time. The two-time Tewaaraton Trophy recipient, the only men's player to earn a share of the trophy in back-to-back years, is the NCAA DI all-time leading scorer with 400 points off 175 goals and 225 assists. He just finished his first season with the Florida Launch in Major League Lacrosse (MLL), ranking second in Rookie of the Year voting, and is expecting to be a high pick in the upcoming National League Lacrosse (NLL) draft.
Miles Thompson left UAlbany as one of the NCAA DI top goal-scorers, earning a share of the Tewaaraton Trophy in 2014. Scoring 189 goals and 104 assists for a total of 293 points, he currently ranks in the top-10 in NCAA DI in total goals scored. He is currently an NLL Rookie of the Year finalist after scoring 62 points off 27 goals and 35 assists for the Minnesota Swarm in 2015 and also played for the Florida Launch this past season in the MLL.
In addition, Lyle and Miles' brothers, Jerome and Jeremy, will also represent the Iroquois Nationals in the tournament. Their cousin, Ty, is currently trying out for the U.S. National Team.
The 2015 FIL World Indoor Championship will be held from September 18-27th at the Onondaga Nation, the capital of the Iroquois Confederacy, and Syracuse. The Iroquois Nationals are slated to compete in the Blue Division along with Canada, the United States and the Czech Republic among potential others.
