UAlbany's Leuchanka and Lagno Named to America East All-Academic squad

Cambridge, Mass.- The University at Albany's Paul Lagno and Alex Leuchanka have been voted to the America East Conference All-Academic squad, which was voted on by the conference office on Tuesday, Nov. 15. This is Leuchanka's second time being honored as a member. Lagno, an all-conference performer at the America East Championships, is being honored for the first time as a member of the All-Academic team.
     Lagno in the classroom accrued a 3.33 GPA in his pursuit for a degree in economics. The junior harrier, outside of the classroom, has had a very successful season with two first place finishes, two America East Performer of the Week honors, a course record, and a fifth place finish at the America East Championships. Lagno, a Salt Point, N.Y. native, started the season off at the Monmouth Kick-Off Classic placing first and setting the course record leading his team to a first place finish. He then went on to finish first at the 45th Annual UAlbany Invitational to lead the squad to its second straight title at the invitational. Both of the races he finished first in resulted in an America East Performer of the Week. Finally with his fifth place finish and his teammate Chris Burke finishing third helped the men's squad capture its first America East Title in the program's history.
     Leuchanka is being honored for the second year in a row for his excellence off the field with a 3.38 GPA en route for a degree in interdisciplinary human biology. On the cross country courses, he has been a consistent runner throughout the season finishing within the top four of his squad. The junior harrier began the season with a fourth place finish at the Monmouth Kick-Off to help give the squad its first team victory of the season. Leuchanka, a Clifton Park, N.Y. native, placed 17th to assist the Great Danes to their second consecutive UAlbany Invitational title. He finished the America East Championship with a 17th place finish and a time of 25:08.34 to aid the men's team record it's first America East Title.
     Both Lagno and Leuchanka along with their teammates will compete in the championship division at the IC4A Championships on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 1030 am at the Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.
