NO. 2 UALBANY REMAINS UNDEFEATED WITH A 12-10 WIN OVER YALE

New Haven, Conn. - Merrick Thomson had three goals and one assist as UAlbany held off Yale, 12-10, for its tenth consecutive win on Wednesday, April 11 at Reese Stadium.
     UAlbany (10-0) snapped a 9-9 tie with four seconds left in the third quarter when Frank Resetarits placed a shot inside the right post. Thomson gave his team a two-goal cusihion by scoring from the top of the crease following a successful clear with 59 seconds elapsed in the fourth quarter. Yale (4-5) closed the gap seven minutes later on James Ryan's goal. But Corey Small answered with 3:57 left as he spun to left and rifled a shot into the right side of the cage.
     Yale reversed a 4-2 deficit with three unanswered to take the lead after the first quarter. Chris Kempner's extra-man started that run. Kyle Washabaugh put his team ahead from in front of the crease when the ball barely crossed the goal mouth. The Great Danes reeled off three straight in the opening two-plus minutes of the second period. Thomson finished off Derek Dale's pass from behind to regain the lead. Small then blasted a 12-yard shot to the right of the goalkeeper 17 seconds later after his team won the subsequent face-off.
     "I give them credit, they didn't give us an inch to breath," said UAlbany head coach Scott Marr. "Our defense was outstanding despite the fact that they were on the field for a long time. That was a huge goal by Frank (Resetarits) at the end of the third quarter. Our best players made plays at the right time."
     The Bulldogs, who have dropped three straight by two goals or less, trailed 9-6 in the third quarter, but rallied with three straight in a three-minute-17-second span. Kempner, who had three goals and two assists, ignited that run by hitting the top right corner. Gregory DuBoff later drew his team even by winning a face-off and finishing off the drive to the net.
     "They played inspired and came out hard in the first quarter," said UAlbany goalkeeper Brett Queener. "We kept our composure and had to fight for the win. They didn't give it to us. We lost our concentration for awhile, but then we communicated better on defense."
     Yale's Brendan Gibson had two goals, while goalkeeper George Carafides made nine saves. Resetarits and Small scored twice for the Great Danes, who tied the program's longest win streak set in 1972. UAlbany is ranked No. 2 in the USILA coaches' poll.
