ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women's golf team and Head Coach
Colleen Cashman are set for another exciting year as the program officially announces its 2026 fall schedule, highlighted by the return of its premier home tournament in October. The Great Danes will compete in five events throughout the fall, featuring two marquee appearances in the Capital Region.
"Our upcoming fall season is going to be a true test of golf at some of the top-ranked Division I tournaments in the Northeast," said Cashman. "We are certainly excited to get back to the golf course once again after many, many summer golf tournaments."
UAlbany opens the season on the road, traveling to Pennsylvania for the Bucknell Invitational at the Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg from September 11-13.
Cashman added, "It has been two years since we first went to Bucknell, and the golf course and practice facilities are first class, so I'm super excited to return once again."
The Great Danes then return home for the first of two local events, renewing the annual "Crosstown Challenge" against Capital Region foe Siena on September 18. The single-day rivalry match will take place at Pinehaven Country Club in Guilderland.
"The Crosstown Challenge against Siena on a Friday afternoon is always a fun one. Playing locally in the Capital Region gives us a great chance to compete right in front of our friends, family, and community—the energy and support they bring always make playing close to home special."
Following the local showdown, UAlbany hits the road to compete in the Princeton Invitational at the Springdale Golf Club in Princeton, N.J., from September 26-27. The following weekend (Oct. 3-4), the Great Danes head to the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn., for the Yale Invitational.
"Adding Yale's newly redesigned course alongside Princeton makes this schedule special. Playing top-tier competition on these beautiful Ivy League campuses always gets the team excited."
The centerpiece of the fall slate arrives October 11–12, when UAlbany hosts the 3rd Annual UAlbany Doc Sauers Invitational at Normanside Country Club in Delmar. Known simply as the UAlbany Great Danes Invitational during its first two years, the event was officially renamed this season to honor legendary former UAlbany head coach Richard "Doc" Sauers following his passing. In addition to his iconic tenure on the basketball court, Sauers served as the men's and women's golf coach from 1997 until 2012, guiding the Great Danes through their transition from Division II to Division I and earning America East Coach of the Year honors in 2010.
After a wildly successful turn hosting the event over the past two seasons, the home tournament has grown into a major staple of the fall calendar, bringing a highly competitive field to the Capital Region while allowing the Great Danes to compete in front of their home crowd.
"Hosting the 3rd Annual UAlbany Doc Sauers Invitational over Indigenous Peoples' Day weekend is a huge highlight for us, especially as we honor Coach Sauers with the new tournament name," Cashman said. "Bringing a stacked 12-team field to our home turf while having our local support out on the course creates an awesome tournament environment to close out the fall."
