RICHMOND – University at Albany linebacker
Chris Gales has been named the Coastal Athletic Association's (CAA) Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday morning.
Â
Gales played a key role in UAlbany's upset win over nationally ranked Monmouth (No. 11 AFCA Coaches Poll, No. 12 STATS Perform) on Saturday afternoon. The senior led the team with 12 total tackles, nine of which were solo. The Cleveland, Ohio native made one of the biggest plays of the game in the final seconds, however, sacking Monmouth quarterback Frankie Weaver to end the contest and cement the win for the Great Danes.
Â
The win for UAlbany was the first over a ranked opponent since the team defeated No. 4 Idaho in the Quarterfinals of the 2023 FCS Playoffs. Â
