Perkovich Announces Staff Updates Ahead of Training Camp

ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany Head Football Coach Tom Perkovich announced a series of coaching staff updates ahead of the upcoming season, featuring internal promotions for Will Fiacchi and Sean Pearson, alongside the addition of Dylan August.

Fiacchi, entering his tenth season on the Great Danes' sidelines, will transition from wide receivers coach to become the team's Passing Game Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach. Pearson, who joined the program in January, has been elevated to Run Game Coordinator, Offensive Line Coach. Joining the offensive room is August, who arrives in the Capital Region as the wide receivers coach.

"These adjustments put our staff in a great position heading into camp in just a few weeks," Perkovich said. "Will and Sean have earned these expanded roles, and adding Dylan gives us a complete offensive room as we prepare for the season."

Fiacchi's promotion marks another chapter in his storied history with his alma mater. The program's all-time leading passer upon his graduation in 2014, Fiacchi served as the offensive coordinator during the 2025 season. He previously held a pass game coordinator title during the historic 2023 FCS semifinal run, directing a unit that led the CAA in receiving touchdowns (37) and developed future NFL targets Brevin Easton and Julian Hicks.

Pearson brings a strong track record to his expanded role. Prior to arriving at UAlbany this winter, he served as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Bucknell, where his rushing attack produced the program's most efficient numbers in over a decade alongside Patriot League Rookie of the Year running back Tariq Thomas. His background also includes coaching positions at Lehigh, Northwestern, and Western Michigan, where he assisted in developing multiple future NFL draft picks.

August brings a wealth of coaching experience across multiple levels of college football to the Great Danes' staff. Most recently, he served as the running backs coach at Tennessee Tech University, where he helped guide the Golden Eagles to a Big South-OVC championship in 2025. Under his direction, the Tennessee Tech backfield boasted the number one rushing offense in the conference, averaging 6.3 yards per carry as a unit and producing a pair of Second Team All-Conference selections.

Prior to his tenure at Tennessee Tech, August gained valuable experience in the Ivy League and the FBS. He spent the 2024 season as an assistant quarterbacks coach at Princeton University following a three-year stint at the University of Houston. While with the Cougars, August served in multiple offensive roles, assisting with the wide receivers, running backs, and offensive line, during which he helped Houston to appearances in the 2021 AAC Championship game alongside Birmingham Bowl and Independence Bowl victories. August began his coaching career at West Virginia University as a defensive graduate assistant working with the safeties and nickels.
