ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany Head Football Coach Tom Perkovich announced today that Offensive Coordinator Mike Wiand has made the decision to step down from his position, effective immediately, due to personal family reasons.
Â
Wiand, who joined the Great Danes' staff this past January, is stepping away from coaching to focus his full attention on an urgent family matter. The athletic department and the football program fully support his decision to prioritize his family during this challenging time.
Â
"We are deeply saddened by the circumstances that require him to step away, but family always comes first," said Perkovich. "Personally, working with Mike for the last eight years has been incredible. We wish him and his loved ones nothing but the best as they navigate through this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family."
Â
Coach Perkovich will take over offensive play-calling responsibilities for the 2026 season. An update regarding additional offensive staff position changes will be provided at a later time.
