RICHMOND - Following a marquee road victory over Rhode Island, University at Albany running back
Rahshan La Mons and linebacker
Jamari Young have claimed Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Football Weekly Honors for Week 8, being named CAA Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
Â
La Mons, a native of Smyrna, Del., delivered a game-changing performance on the ground in the Great Danes' 38-21 victory over Rhode Island, which snapped the Rams' 17-game home winning streak. La Mons rushed for a career-high 196 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries, averaging 8.2 yards per touch, while adding 13 receiving yards for 209 total all-purpose yards. The junior running back opened the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, added a 36-yard scoring sprint in the third quarter, and sealed the win with a 65-yard touchdown breakaway in the fourth quarter.
Â
Young, hailing from Temple Hills, Md., anchored a relentless Great Dane pass rush that disrupted Rhode Island's offensive rhythm all afternoon. The senior racked up six total tackles (four solo), 4.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks for 22 lost yards, and two pass breakups. His three sacks were a career high, and his pressure up front helped limit the Rams to just 150 net rushing yards and 5.0 yards per play.
Â
Through eight games, La Mons leads UAlbany's rushing attack with 689 yards and eight touchdowns on the season, while Young ranks among the CAA leaders with 32 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 3.0 sacks.

UAlbany (5-3, 3-1 CAA) returns home this Saturday, Oct. 31, as the Great Danes host Campbell at Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium for Spooky Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
