ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany baseball team is set to host Wagner College this weekend for a three-game non-conference series. The team will be celebrating its Vs. Cancer Game on Saturday afternoon, a fundraising event in support of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. In addition, the team will return to Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Friday night and welcome The Hidden Opponent to Sunday's game.
Â
"The Vs. Cancer game is a huge day for us," said Head Coach
Jon Mueller. "We've been doing this since the inception of the organization, we are always so excited to partner with them."
Â
Vs. Cancer empowers any sports team, any athlete, any community to help kids with cancer. As a signature fundraising campaign of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, proceeds are split between child life programs in local hospitals and national pediatric brain tumor research.
Â
UAlbany baseball has helped in annual fundraising for Vs. Cancer since 2015. In 2019, Associate Head Coach
Jeff Kaier was named an Inaugural Baseball vs. Cancer Ambassador. This year, the team has set a goal of raising $2,500 for the organization, which it has already surpassed thanks to the generosity of the community. Donations are still being accepted – fans can

Â
In addition, representatives from the Gift of Life Marrow Registry will be at Saturday's game offering free cheek swabs for those who may have any interest in donating.
Â
Adding to a packed weekend, UAlbany will return to Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Friday night and host The Hidden Opponent on Sunday. Friday's game at 'The Joe' will be the second of four on the 2023 calendar for the Great Danes, who are also scheduled to play at the Troy Ballpark on May 5
th and 18
th. Sunday's game will be the first time the team pairs with The Hidden Opponent, an accredited non-profit and advocacy group that raises awareness for student-athlete mental health and addresses the stigma within sports culture.
Â
"We're really excited to go back to Joe Bruno for our second visit of the spring," added Mueller. "We had a great experience last time, and we look forward to a big crowd again."
Â
In conjunction with The Hidden Opponent, both the UAlbany and Wagner teams will wear green colored pins on Sunday afternoon in support of the organization.
Â
Coach Mueller went on to say "Mental Health Awareness Day is something we are very excited about as well. We're partnering with Wagner in a combined effort to recognize The Hidden Opponent and all that they do."
