Baseball Drops Series Opener at Bryant

Short Story: The University at Albany baseball team dropped the series opener at Bryant on Friday afternoon, falling 15-5.
 
Coach Jon Mueller: "We got off to a poor start and never recovered. The free passes and defensive miscues combined for a long afternoon. Back at it tomorrow."
 
Key Stats: How it Happened:
  • Bryant jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring six runs on just two hits, aided by walks and defensive miscues to take control at 6-0.
  • UAlbany got on the board in the second inning when Levi McAllister doubled and later scored on an RBI single from Brian Guerrero to cut the deficit to 6-1.
  • The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the second with an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-1.
  • The Great Danes added a run in the third inning as Patrick DeSarno scored on a Tre Mariano RBI double, making it 7-2.
  • Bryant responded again in the bottom half of the inning, plating three runs to push the lead to 10-2. Christian Mello was lifted during the inning, with Brian Cadieux entering in relief to close out the frame.
  • UAlbany chipped away in the fourth inning when Jaxon Mueller scored on a fielder's choice to make it 10-3.
  • The Bulldogs extended its lead in the fourth with a solo home run to make it 11-3.
  • In the fifth inning, UAlbany showed life as Tre Mariano doubled before Jaxon Mueller launched a two-run home run to left center, cutting the deficit to 11-5.
  • However, Bryant responded immediately in the bottom of the fifth with three runs, including back-to-back home runs, to stretch the lead to 14-5.
  • Bryant added one more run in the seventh on a solo home run to seal the 15-5 final.
