ALBANY, N.Y. - University at Albany women's basketball's
Freja Werth and
Helene Haegerstrand were invited to train with Sweden's Senior National Team. Additionally, Werth was selected to compete with Sweden's U20 National Team at the upcoming FIBA U20 European Basketball Championships.
"We are very proud of both Freja and Helene for being invited to the Swedish Senior National Team Camp held this week," said UAlbany head coach
Colleen Mullen. "Freja was also selected to the U20 Swedish National Team, but unfortunately she isn't able to participate in either event as she is still rehabbing an injury. It is a true honor to be selected to represent your country on a global stage and we couldn't be more excited for both of them."
Haegerstrand, an America East First Team All-Conference honoree, will close out the Sweden Senior National Team Training Camp on June 15, after beginning on June 11. Attending the senior camp for the first time in her career, Haegerstrand comes off a year that saw her lead the Great Danes in scoring and three-point percentage.
Werth returns to Sweden following her rookie season at UAlbany. Seeing court time in all 33 of the Great Danes' games, she finished second on the team, behind only Haegerstrand, with a .342 three-point percentage and led the freshmen in scoring and field goal percentage.
Along with Haegerstrand, Werth was invited to the Senior National Team Training Camp but was unable to attend due to an injury.
In addition to an invite to the senior training camp, Werth was selected to compete with the U20 National Team at the upcoming FIBA U20 European Basketball Championships. She has opted out of competition due to an injury.
