EDISON, N.J. - The University at Albany women's golf team was picked to finish second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), as announced by the conference Saturday.
The Great Danes earned 75 total points and four of nine first place votes to finish second in the preseason poll. Finishing with just one more point, Quinnipiac totaled 76 points and five first place votes to take the top spot.
Behind UAlbany, Dayton was voted to finish third with 54 points followed by Fairfield (48), Monmouth (47), Hartford (38), Siena (28), La Salle (20), and Niagara (19).
Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
UAlbany enters the season after a second-place finish at the 2021 MAAC Championships. Throughout the fall, the Great Danes'
Amber Thornton broke several program records taking the MAAC Golfer of the Month title for September and October 2021.
The Great Danes start their spring season at the Columbia Classic - set to take place in Florida - on February 12-14.
