Track & Field Lands Four All-Academic Selections

BOSTON – The University at Albany track & field program tallied four America East All-Academic selections for the latest outdoor season, the conference offices announced Wednesday.  The Great Danes earning the accolades were seniors Tara Belinsky, Kyle Gronostaj, Colleen Maloney, and Tyler Ranke.  The quartet was named alongside a collection of 21 student-athletes, 11 women and 10 men, across the conference.

Belinsky, a thrower from Locust Valley, N.Y., is the only representative who was also named America East All-Academic for the indoor season.  Belinsky, who has accumulated a 3.86 GPA studying Communications, earns her third All-Academic honor.  This season, placed first in the shot put at the America East Outdoor Championships, alongside a sixth-place finish in the discus.

Gronostaj, a distance runner from East Greenbush, N.Y., brings home his third career All-Academic accolade, having accumulated a 3.53 GPA studying Business with a minor in Public Health.  During the season, Gronostaj placed second in the 10,000m and third in the 5,000m at the America East Outdoor Championships.  Further, he set the school record in the 10,000m with a time of 29:32.41, becoming the first Great Dane to break the 30-minute barrier in the event.

Maloney, a distance runner from Rensselaer, N.Y., earned her first career All-Academic honor, and has accumulated a 3.72 GPA studying Business with a minor in Public Health.  She was the America East Outdoor Champion in the 3,000m steeplechase.

Ranke, a distance runner from Rochester, N.Y., also earned his first career All-Academic honor.  He has accumulated a 3.48 GPA studying Criminal Justice with a minor in Business.  Like Maloney, Ranke was the America East Outdoor Champion in the 3,000m steeplechase.

Gronostaj and Ranke will compete this week at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships at the University of South Florida for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
