SAAC Report: December 2018

ALBANY, N.Y. – With the holiday season in full swing, the University at Albany's chapter of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has had its hands full with a number of events and initiatives.

November ended with the conclusion of the Food Frenzy.  This year, the Frenzy collected 1,801 cans, helping the America East surpass its goal of 10,000 cans collected overall and 1,000 cans per school.  The cans were donated to the Regional Food Bank.

On November 30, SAAC hosted its third annual dodgeball tournament, during which more than $500 was raised that will be donated to Friends of Jaclyn, to be presented at the Great Dane Awards in May.  The tournament was open to all UAlbany athletes, alumni, and administration.

A group of student-athletes visited Albertus W. Becker elementary school in Ravena on December 5.  The athletes read in a classroom in each grade between kindergarten and fifth, impressing upon the young students the importance of school.

Finally, in closing out the semester before final exams, SAAC volunteered at the Interfaith Center on December 9, its second visit to the Center this semester, having previously visited on November 11.  SAAC visitors to the Center made and served breakfast to people within the Habitat for Humanity.

Earlier in the semester, SAAC participated in the Alzheimer's Walk at Siena College on September 27.  The organization donated $3,778 to help discover a cure for Alzheimer's.

SAAC will pick up with new events following the New Year.
