ALBANY, N.Y. – Following two straight wins on the road, the University at Albany women's basketball team will wrap up its seven-day, three-game road trip at the Times Union Center on Saturday for the 2017-18 edition of the Albany Cup against crosstown rival Siena. UAlbany has won each of the last seven meetings in the rivalry.
Siena will be the third MAAC opponent UAlbany has faced this season, having previously played Monmouth and Manhattan. The Jaspers were the Great Danes' most recent opponent. Manhattan built a 12-point lead early in the second quarter behind a 9-10 shooting effort in the first 10 minutes, but UAlbany managed to claw its way back into the game after halftime before pulling away with an early fourth-quarter run to ultimately win the game by six points.
Four the fourth time in the last five games, Mackenzie Trpcic recorded eight assists. Tiana-Jo Carter scored eight of her nine points in the fourth quarter on four consecutive UAlbany possessions to ice the game for the Great Danes. After Manhattan's lead grew to 12 in the first half, freshman Patricia Conroy hit back-to-back threes to cut the Jasper's lead in half and start the UAlbany comeback.
Siena most recently played at Hofstra, defeating the Pride by a 10-point margin, 70-60. The Saints have played each of their last three games on the road, going 2-1 during that stretch, including an overtime victory over Colgate and a 12-point loss at Rutgers.
UAlbany has won its last seven games over the Saints by an average of 16 points, with the closest game in the streak coming last year's three-point overtime victory at SEFCU Arena. The last time Siena won was in 2009, by four points in overtime.
