ALBANY, N.Y. – After a one-game road trip, the University at Albany women's basketball program (8-8, 2-1 AE) will return home for one game against UMBC on Monday night. Two consecutive road games will follow the one-game home stand.
Most recently, the Great Danes visited New Hampshire, where they fell 71-58 to the Wildcats. The team jumped out to a 27-14 lead by the end of the first quarter, but trained 36-33 at halftime. The Danes took the lead once more by the end of the third quarter, but ultimately could not slow New Hampshire's fourth quarter momentum.
UAlbany has hovered around .500 all season, falling back to the mark after the loss against the Wildcats. The Danes' previous victory over Stony Brook on January 7 gave the team a winning record for the first time since they were 6-5 after a victory over Post in the final home game of 2016.
The Great Danes have now fallen to fourth place in the America East. New Hampshire and Hartford both remain undefeated in conference play, followed by Binghamton who sits in third at 3-1.
UMBC last played Vermont on Saturday in Baltimore. The Catamounts had already beaten last year's America East runner-up Maine earlier this season, but UMBC won on Saturday over Vermont in overtime by a score of 69-66. It was the Retrievers' first America East victory, having opened their conference slate with three consecutive losses.
After playing the Retrievers, the Great Danes will visit Binghamton on Thursday, January 19, before visiting Maine on Sunday, January 22 for a rematch of last year's America East title game.
