ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany women's lacrosse (0-1) fell in its first game of 2016 to Cornell (2-0) by a score of 9-5 on Saturday afternoon. Senior Julie Cryderman matched her career high with two goals in the loss to the Big Red.
Alie Jimerson scored the first goal of the year after beating her defender around the backside of the crease less than two minutes in. Cornell countered shortly after off of a draw control victory to tie the game at one.
The defense stepped up with the game tied at one to force a turnover deep in its own end. Senior Christine Johnson cleared up field, and junior Dakotah Savitcheff found the back of the cage from Jimerson to regain the lead 2-1.
Sophomore Emma Powlin took a victory at the draw control circle following the goal, but the Danes lost the possession on a turnover. After the Big Red failed to convert, Powlin drilled a shot that hit the post, but another costly turnover gave the ball back to Cornell.
