Women’s Lacrosse Fired Up Ahead of Facing Johns Hopkins in NCAA First Round

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women's lacrosse team is set to take on #4 seed Johns Hopkins in the First Round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament. The game is set for Friday, May 8, at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Md.

Scouting the Great Danes
The Great Danes enter the NCAA Tournament with a 12-5 overall record and strong postseason momentum after capturing the program's fifth America East title. UAlbany finished 5-1 in conference play and earned the No. 2 seed in the America East Tournament, defeating No. 3 Bryant (12-11) in the semifinals and top-seeded Vermont (13-11) in the championship game.
The championship appearance marked UAlbany's 15th consecutive trip to the America East title game and third conference championship in the last four seasons.
 
Offensively, the Great Danes averaged 11.59 goals per game on a .431 shooting percentage, while the defense held opponents to 10.94 goals per contest. UAlbany has been dominant in possession, leading the America East and ranking among the nation's best with 14.35 draw controls per game and a .594 draw control percentage. The Great Danes also excel in transition, posting an .888 clear percentage.

  • Ravan Marsell: A First Team All-Conference selection, Marsell leads the team with 66 points (29 goals, 37 assists), ranking first in the America East in assists and among the top in points per game.
  • Mya Carroll: The America East Rookie of the Year, Carroll totaled 39 points (28 goals, 11 assists) while adding 39 draw controls. She was also named Second Team All-Conference and to the All-Rookie Team.
  • Jaedyn Frink: A Second Team All-Conference attacker, Frink leads the team with 30 goals, providing a consistent scoring presence.
  • Delilah Mile: A defensive leader, Mile earned Second Team All-Conference honors while totaling 20 caused turnovers and anchoring the back line.
  • Grace Cincebox: The America East Co-Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection, Cincebox posted 137 saves with a 10.67 goals-against average and a .448 save percentage.

The Great Danes captured the America East title in comeback fashion, defeating Vermont 13-11 after trailing 5-1 early in the second quarter.
 
UAlbany surged in the second half behind a balanced offensive effort. Paisley Cook led the way with seven points (4g, 3a) and 11 draw controls, while Mya Carroll added five points (3g, 2a). Ravan Marsell chipped in four points (1g, 3a), and Jaedyn Frink and Kloey Roos each scored twice, with Roos delivering key goals early in the fourth quarter.
 
Defensively, Grace Cincebox made key saves down the stretch, while Delilah Mile recorded four caused turnovers to help seal the victory.
 
Scouting the Blue Jays
Johns Hopkins enters the NCAA Tournament with a 14-4 record and earned the No. 4 overall seed, the highest in program history. The Blue Jays received an at-large bid out of the Big Ten and will host NCAA First and Second Round games for the second straight season.
 
Hopkins features one of the most potent offenses in the nation, averaging 14.61 goals per game while ranking among the national leaders in assists, caused turnovers, and ground balls. The Blue Jays recorded wins over ranked opponents, including Duke, Penn, Stony Brook, Michigan, and Penn State.
 
This marks Johns Hopkins' eighth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 14th overall.

  • Reagan O'Brien: The Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and a Tewaaraton Finalist, O'Brien leads the nation with 75 caused turnovers and is the NCAA all-time leader in the category, while also recording a team high 62 ground balls.
  • Lacey Downey: The Big Ten Midfielder of the Year, Downey leads the team with 90 points (49 goals, 41 assists), ranking among the top 10 players nationally, while recording 57 ground balls and 40 caused turnovers.
  • Ava Angello: A dynamic scorer, Angello has totaled 61 goals and 85 points this season.
  • Taylor Hoss: A dual offensive threat with 79 points (38 goals, 41 assists), but a team high 43 turnovers.
 
Series History
Friday's matchup marks the third meeting between the two programs in the last four seasons and the first in NCAA Tournament play. Johns Hopkins holds a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series, including a 14-10 victory in the most recent meeting on February 9, 2024, in Albany.
