Women’s Lacrosse Goes Back-to-Back, Downs Top Seeded Vermont for America East Title

Short Story: The UAlbany women's lacrosse team won its second consecutive America East Championship on Sunday afternoon, downing top-seeded Vermont by a score of 13-11 on their own turf. It becomes the fifth title in program history.
 
With the win, the Great Danes have officially punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
 
The Great Danes earned several America East Tournament Awards. Paisley Cook was named the Most Outstanding Player, while Molly McGrath received the Elite-18 award. Additionally, Cook, Ravan Marsell, Grace Cincebox, Mya Carroll, and Jaedyn Frink were all named to the All-Championship team.

  • Paisely Cook was named the America East Most Outstanding Player, recording four goals and three assists in the Championship Game alone. She added 11 draw controls to her stats line as well.
  • Mya Carroll followed with a five-point outing, collecting three goals and two assists.
  • Jaedyn Frink and Kloey Roos each scored two goals.
  • Ravan Marsell notched four points with three helpers and a score.
  • Delilah Mile finished with a team-best four caused turnovers.

How It Happened
  • Vermont scored the first goal of the game four minutes in off the stick of Lydia Doraz.
  • The lead for the Catamounts was pushed to 2-0 with just four minutes remaining in the first on a goal from Jane Trauger.
  • UAlbany's Mya Carroll got the Great Danes on the board with 2:19 left in the first to make it 2-1.
  • The Catamounts responded with back-to-back goals before time expired to take a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.
  • The lead was pushed to 5-1 early in the second on a goal from Vermont's Caitlin Haggerty.
  • UAlbany responded with three straight goals to make it 5-4. Catrina Rowe scored the first before Paisley Cook put in two more in under two minutes.
  • Vermont's Trauger got the Vermont lead back to two goals, but UAlbany was able to tie it before the half with goals from Cook and Carroll, 6-6.
  • The second half started with back-to-back-goals from Jaedyn Frink to put the Great Danes ahead, 8-2.
  • Midway through the third, Vermont notched two straight to tie it up once more at 8-8.
  • The final goal of the third came with 1:51 on the clock off the stick of Ravan Marsell to put UAlbany ahead 9-8 heading into the final frame.
  • Kloey Roos scored two straight at the start of the fourth to push the lead to 11-8.
  • Two more UAlbany goals from Cook and Carrol gave the Great Danes a 13-8 advantage, their largest of the afternoon.
  • The Catmounts were able to score twice more in under a minute to cut the deficit to three goals, 13-10, with eight minutes remaining in the game.
  • With 4:14 on the clock, Vermont's Trauger cut the UAlbany lead to just two goals at 13-11.
  • Vermont's comeback effort was not enough though, as the Great Danes held on for the 13-11 victory.

The Great Danes will officially move on to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year. The team will find out their next opponent during the NCAA Selection Show, airing tonight at 9:00 p.m.
