ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany women's lacrosse team is set to take on #4 Johns Hopkins in the First Round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament. The game is set for Friday, May 8, in Baltimore, Maryland at 3:00 PM on Homewood Field.
The Great Danes captured the program's fifth America East title on Sunday afternoon, taking down archrival Vermont in comeback fashion. After falling behind 5-1 early in the second quarter, UAlbany stormed back behind a dominant second-half effort to secure a 13-11 victory at Virtue Field.
The offense was powered by a balanced attack led by
Paisley Cook,
Mya Carroll, and
Ravan Marsell. Cook led all players with seven points on four goals and three assists while controlling a game-high 11 draw controls. Carroll added five points on three goals and two assists, while Marsell contributed four points on one goal and three assists.
Jaedyn Frink and
Kloey Roos each recorded two goals, with Frink scoring twice in the third quarter to give UAlbany its first lead of the game. Roos added back-to-back goals early in the fourth quarter as part of a decisive run that helped the Great Danes pull away.
UAlbany's free-position opportunities came up big, converting four-of-eight opportunities, one in each quarter, that outscored Vermont's, which only found themselves at the 8-meter line four times during the game.
Defensively, the Great Danes were anchored by goalkeeper
Grace Cincebox, who recorded five saves while making several key stops down the stretch to preserve the lead.
Kimaura Schindler led the defensive effort with four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while
Delilah Mile added four caused turnovers and three ground balls.
The title marks another milestone for the program as UAlbany returns to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in program history.
Johns Hopkins Blue Jays women's lacrosse enters the NCAA Tournament with a 14-4 record and received an at-large bid to secure hosting rights. Ranked inside the top 15 nationally for much of the season, the Blue Jays picked up key marquee wins over ranked teams, Duke of the ACC, Penn, Stony Brook, and Big 10 opponents, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and Rutgers.
UAlbany and Johns Hopkins have met two times previously, with the last meeting coming in February 9
th, 2024, which saw the Great Danes fall to the then-ranked #14 Blue Jays 14-10 on John Fallon Field.
The winner of Friday's game will move on to face the winner of Army or Fairfield in the Second Round
