Baseball Overcome By Coastal Carolina, 12-0

CONWAY, S.C. – In the nightcap of Saturday's split doubleheader at Caravelle Resort's Baseball at the Beach Tournament, the hosting Coastal Carolina Chanticleers overcame the University at Albany baseball team 12-0. With UAlbany's 9-6 win over NC State earlier in the day, the Great Danes logged a 1-1 record on opening day, while Coastal improved to 4-2 on the season.

While UAlbany totaled five hits in the contest, the Chanticleer pitching staff faced just one batter over the minimum. Starter Chase Adkins (1-1) earned the win, throwing seven innings, scattering four hits, while striking out six. His twin brother Chad combined for the shutout, hurling the final two frames, allowing one hit with three strikeouts.

For the Great Danes, senior Cameron Sorgie (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on two hits, while striking out two in two innings of work. Andrew Jaurique, JT Genovese, Michael Adams, and Joe Romero shared time out of the bullpen.

Coastal used 10 hits and six errors to its advantage in the game. The Chanticleers scored two unearned runs in the first inning, as a pair of walks and a single loaded the bases. A throwing error on a fielder's choice brought in the first run and G.K. Young's sac fly to left-center plated the second.

From there, the Big South power progressively built its lead, adding two runs in the second inning, one in the third, and two in the sixth, before breaking the game wide open with a five-run seventh.

Alex Lushkevich (1-for-4), Karson Canaday (1-for-3), Evan Harasta (1-for-3), Trevor DeMerritt (1-for-3), and Garrett Longhurst (1-for-1) each recorded a hit in the clash.

The Great Danes will play their final game in the season-opening tournament Sunday at 10 a.m. against Georgia Tech, the reigning ACC champions.
