UAlbany Drops 8-1 Decision to Wofford in Non-Conference Baseball Action

Spartanburg, S.C. - Shortstop Matt Moore went 2-for-3 with one run scored and three RBI to lead Wofford to an 8-1 win over UAlbany in non-conference baseball action at King Field on Friday evening. The game, which was originally scheduled for Friday, was moved up to Thursday evening due to incoming inclement weather.

UAlbany's Nolan Gaige led the game off with a double, but was unable to make it home. Wofford took a one-run lead in the bottom of the first inning, as lead-off hitter James Foster belted a triple and came home on an RBI ground out by Clark Wise. The Spartans then racked up six runs on four hits in the third frame. An RBI-double by Konstantine Diamaduros brought in the first run, and Moore knocked in two runs with a single to left. With the bases loaded, Wofford drew consecutive walks to bring in two runs, before a sacrifice fly by Doyle scored the final run of the inning.

Relief pitcher Greg Lutton, who entered in the third inning for the Great Danes, followed with three scoreless innings for UAlbany, allowing just one hit, while serving up five strikeouts. The Great Danes got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh. Gaige led off with a bunt single, and scored on an RBI single by Mike Tirri. Wofford scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the frame, as Moore knocked an RBI double down the left field line to score Nick Peterson.

Brandon Yarusi earned the win on the mound for Wofford (4-4), as he scattered six hits and fanned nine in six innings of work. UAlbany starter Zach Kraham took the loss for the Great Danes, with five earned runs allowed in two and a third innings of work.

Gaige finished with three hits for UAlbany, while third baseman Joey Tracy belted two of the Great Danes' nine hits in the game. Senior Pete DiResta knocked out his first double of the season in the game.

UAlbany (0-4) will return to action on Saturday, as they visit USC-Upstate to continue a Southern swing through South Carolina.
