Crean Ties School Record With Three Doubles to Lead UAlbany Baseball Over Hartford, 7-5

Albany, N.Y. - Kyle Crean tied the program's single-game record with three doubles to lead UAlbany to a 7-5 win over Hartford in America East Conference baseball action on Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field. With the win, the Great Danes completed the weekend sweep of the Hawks and hold a 3-0 league record.

The Great Danes scored two runs in both the first and second innings to take an early 4-0 lead. Crean recorded his first double of the game in the first inning, and came home on a two-RBI single by Pete DiResta to give UAlbany a 2-0 lead after one. The senior shortstop's second two-bagger of the day came in the second frame, driving in Nolan Gaige and Rob Cervini. Hartford got one run back in the third, as Chris Suchy came home on a UAlbany fielding error. The Great Danes then tacked on a single run in the fourth with Crean's third double of the day, sending Gaige, who walked to start the inning, across home plate.

Hartford (2-23-1, AE 0-3)responded with a single run in the fifth, but UAlbany added runs in the fifth and sixth to hold onto a 7-2 advantage. The Hawks started to rally in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs on an RBI single by Mark Sorbara, before getting runners home on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and walk. However, UAlbany closer Austin Chase came in for the final two innings to shut down the Hartford offense, and did not allow a hit or a walk, while striking out one to earn his first save of the season.

Zach Kraham earned his second win in as many starts, going six innings with four strikeouts. Anthony Mannuccia took the loss for Hartford after allowing 11 hits and six earned runs in six innings of work. Gaige and DiResta finished with two hits each for UAlbany, while DiResta also drove in three runs and recorded two stolen bases.

UAlbany (10-15, AE 3-0) will return to action on Wednesday, visiting Marist for a mid-week non-conference matchup at 3 p.m.
