Albany, N.Y. - Head women's basketball coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson has completed her coaching staff for the 2010-11 season, as announced on Tuesday afternoon. Meredith Noonan will join the staff as director of basketball operations, while Tahnee Balerio will serve as a graduate assistant for the program.
Noonan comes to UAlbany after a two-year stint as the director of operations for the Mercer University women's basketball squad where she worked with current UAlbany assistant coach Fred Castro. Noonan was responsible for coordinating team travel and day-to-day operations within the program as well as all summer camp management. She implemented marketing initiatives and special event programming with the program and assisted with game-day management, including promotions. Noonan was responsible for compiling an alumni database and oversaw the women's basketball booster club, as well as all compliance activities.
Prior to her time at Mercer, Noonan, who earned a B.A. in public relations and Spanish and later a M.Ed. in higher education administration from Oklahoma, worked in several capacities with the Sooner athletic department. She was a guest services worker with the event management department and was also a graduate assistant with the wrestling program, serving in an operations role. Noonan was an intern in the Oklahoma media relations department as a student, assisting in game-day and day-to-day office activities.
Balerio, who graduated from Missouri State in December 2008, was a team captain and two-time MVP for the Bears. A Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete, Balerio was a two-time all-conference honoree and led the MVC in scoring during the 2006-07 season, averaging 18.7 points per game. She helped lead the Bears to the MVC and WNIT Championships in 2005 and was invited to participate at the WNBA free agent draft camp in 2010.
After graduating from Missouri State, Balerio was the head junior varsity and assistant varsity coach at Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Mo. She was in charge of coordinating the defense for the varsity program, as well as analyzing film, scouting and managing the statistic database. Balerio also worked specifically with the guards on position workouts, and ran all aspects of the junior varsity program. She also has coaching experience with Missouri State summer camps and completed an internship with the Bears' women's basketball program after graduation.
