Great Danes Capture ECAC University Division Women's Cross Country Championship

Bronx, N.Y. - University at Albany's Ada Lauterbach and Emily Finnegan finished third and fifth, respectively, in the ECAC University Division Championship on Saturday, Nov. 20 at Van Cortlandt Park in leading the Great Danes to the team title. UAlbany finished with 49 points to easily out-distance runner-up Monmouth, which had 99 points, over the 5,000-meter course.
     Rounding out the scoring for UAlbany were Emily Fung in 11th place, Miranda McConnnell in 14th and Kathryn Fanning in 16th. The Great Danes improved upon their second-place showing from one year ago.
Lauterbach, who finished in a time of 18:21.6, was just 20 seconds off the winning pace set by Kimberly DeLoreto of Sacred Heart.  More than 200 runners and 22 teams took part in the championship.
     The UAlbany men also fared well in the IC4A Championship Division race, also at Van Cortlandt Park, with sophomore Paul Lagno leading the way for the Great Danes over the 8,000-meter layout. Lagno finished ninth overall as his squad placed eighth in the team standings. UAlbany's top five finishers combined for 201 points. Duke finished first with just 44 points.
     Lagno's time of 25:18.3 was 26 seconds behind individual winner Christian Gonzalez of Rider. Craig Hunt, of Central Connecticut State was second.
     Other place-winners for the Great Danes were Ethan Clary in 35th place, R.J. Sniffen in 40th, Greg Kiley in 53rd, Sean Halpin in 65th, Alex Leuchanka in 77th and Jimmy Carroll in 115th.
