Albany, N.Y. ? Designated hitter Justin Lepore went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI to lead Marist to a 17-8 win over UAlbany in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Varsity Field. The two teams combined for 30 hits.
Marist (12-26) put the game away with a six-run seventh inning which started with back-to-back hits by infielder Kenny Anderson and Ryan Gauck. Lepore doubled down the right field line in the inning to drive in two runs and scored on an RBI double by Pat Feeney.
Marist scored runs in each of the first four innings, including a solo shot by senior Travis Musolf to start the game. The Red Foxes scored three runs in the second and added two in both the third and the fourth to hold an 8-3 lead.
Sophomore shortstop Sean Donovan drove solo homer over the right field fence in the bottom of the fifth and also drove an RBI double through the left side during a three-run seventh for the Great Danes. Donovan finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI.
Third baseman Steve Wyland went 4-for-5 with two runs scored for UAlbany (18-21), while catcher Tom Hill had two doubles and drove in three runs. Junior right-hander Rob Glowacki picked up the win for Marist while starter Marco Rivera took the loss.
UAlbany will return to America East Conference play with a four-game series at Hartford, starting on Friday at 3 p.m.
