ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany men's track and field's
Tooni Ogunyeye and
Samir Gardner have been honored by the America East, announced Tuesday.
Tooni Ogunyeye, a sophomore from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, ran a personal record 10.32 in the 100m at UAlbany's home meet on Friday. Recording the meet record, he is now ranked first in the America East and second in the Northeast while improving to fourth in program history. His efforts earned him Track Athlete of the Week.
A native of Albany, New York,
Samir Gardner has been named the Rookie of the Week after recording a personal record in the long jump - 7.38m (24-2.5). Currently tied for eighth in program history, his jump at the Bobbi Palma Spring Classic is second only to his own wind-aided jump in the America East.
These are the first weekly awards for both Ogunyeye and Gardner this outdoor season.
The track and field programs will return to action with a split week - Penn Relays (Apr. 23-25) and RPI's Capital District Classic (Apr. 24).
