Smith, Durau Honored by America East

BOSTON - The University at Albany track and field's men's program has earned two America East weekly awards, as announced Tuesday.

Graduate student Jacob Smith and freshman Leonard Durau were honored in their respective categories.

Named the AE Track Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week, Jacob Smith won the mile with a UAlbany program record at the Scarlet Knights Open. Running nearly sub-four, he finished first at the NYC Armory and is currently ranked first in the AE and ninth in the Northeast.

Jumping the best mark in the America East this season, Leonard Durau tabbed a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (15.38m) at the Scarlet Knights Open. His jump is fourth in the Northeast and he is now ranked seventh in UAlbany history. He was named the Rookie of the Week for his efforts.

Smith and Durau's awards mark the fourth and fifth for the men's track and field team.

Both track and field programs will return to action, as a team, at the America East Indoor Championship on February 20-21.
