ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany cross country and track and field programs have been honored for their accomplishments in the classroom during the 2024-25 season.
All four teams - men's and women's cross country and men's and women's track and field - have been honored as an All-Academic Team from the United States Track, Field, and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The men's cross country team earned the highest team GPA with a 3.626 while the women accumulated a team GPA of 3.083 during the fall semester. Each track and field team earned a season GPA to qualify - 3.286 (men) and 3.289 (women).
In addition to the team awards, seven student-athletes have earned a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
Rebeca Valerie Barrientos Alpha,
Lalenii Grant,
Beatriz Mora Herencia, and
Miyanah Robinson represented the women's team on the national academic stage. Barrientos Alpha was honored for her indoor track and field finish in the triple jump while freshmen Grant, Mora Herencia, and Robinson excelled in the classroom and on the field of play having all competed at the NCAA Regionals.
On the men's side,
Simone Menchini,
Qualiar Newton, and
Travis Robinson represented. Menchini was the AE Indoor Long Jump Champion and competed at the NCAA Regional for outdoor long jump. Throwers, Newton (weight throw) and Robinson (shot put) medaled and hold UAlbany records in their respective events, were honored for their accomplishments during the 2024-25 indoor season.
To qualify as an All-Academic, a team must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. An individual must hold a GPA of 3.25 or higher and either finish the indoor season ranked in the top 96 of their event nationally or participate in any round of the NCAA Championship during the outdoor season.
