ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany track and field program has announced its indoor and outdoor schedule for the 2025-26 season.
The team will compete in five indoor meets and seven outdoor meets as well as their respective championship competitions.
Indoor
The Great Danes will spend the majority of their 2026 indoor season traveling between the Armory in New York City and Boston University with a brief trip to Cornell in late January.
New York, New York - The Armory
Jan. 16: Ramapo Season Opener
Jan. 29 – Feb. 1: Millrose Games
- Last year, a select four UAlbany weight throwers competed against national talents.
- Qualiar Newton placed fourth overall, and second out of all collegiate competitors.
Boston, Massachusetts - Boston University
Jan. 24: Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational
- Overall, seven Great Danes finished first in their respective events last year.
- Rebeca Valerie Barrientos Alpha set a new El Salvador record in the indoor triple jump.
Feb. 7-8: ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships
- The men's team took ten athletes and the women's team took two athletes.
- Rebeca Valerie Barrientos Alpha led the team with an individual title in the triple jump in her final meet as Great Dane.
Feb. 20-21: America East Championships
- Both the men's and the women's teams will look to defend their titles this season. The men's team looks to win their 20th overall indoor championship, while the women are on the hunt for their 15th overall indoor championship.
- Last year, both men and women combined had nine individual champions, and 25 additional medalists.
- The men swept the long jump podium, while the women swept the 60m podium.
- On the men's side, Tooni Ogunyeye won Most Outstanding Rookie, and the coaching staff won Coaching Staff of the Year.
- For the women, Rebeca Valerie Barrientos Alpha won Most Outstanding Field Performer.
Mar. 1: Last Chance NCAA Indoor Qualifier
- UAlbany sent five student-athletes to compete last year.
- All five athletes finished in the top eight of their respective events.
Ithaca, New York - Cornell University
Jan. 31: Cornell Invite
- This is the first time UAlbany is competing in the Cornell Invite.
Any athlete who qualifies for the NCAA Indoor Championships will travel to the University of Arkansas and compete on March 13-14.
Outdoor
UAlbany will cover seven states over their ten-meet outdoor season, which includes their only home stint of the year.
Florida
Tampa, Florida – University of South Florida
Mar. 20-21: USF Alumni Invitational
- Last time the Great Danes traveled to the University of South Florida was in March of 2021.
- At this meet, six UAlbany athletes won their respective events.
- Overall, all athletes placed in the top ten.
- Last year the Great Danes opened their outdoor season at the University of Central Florida's Black and Gold Invitational.
- At UCF, the men's team had four top five finishes.
- Lalenii Grant broke UAlbany's freshman record in discus, putting her second in program history, behind Venique (Harris) Brown, current Director of Operations for the team.
- Beatriz Mora Herencia broke a second freshman record in the javelin throw, which also put her second overall in program history.
Gainesville, Florida – University of Florida
Apr. 3-4: Pepsi Florida Relays
- Hassan Abidi PR'd in the 800m to break an 18-year-old program record.
- Abidi and Stephanie Green each had performances that put them in the top five in the Northeast.
Storrs, Connecticut - University of Connecticut
Apr. 4: UConn Dog Fight
- The UAlbany men's team took home a victory at last season's meet when they bested six other teams.
- Overall, six men and women combined for six first place finishes.
Capital Region
Troy, New York – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Apr. 10-11: RPI Under the Lights
- Isaiah Williams and Shane O'Neill took first and second in shot put, while Qualiar Newton and John Coddington rounded out the top two in the hammer throw.
- Four women's throwers swept the top four finishes in the hammer throw.
- The men's team tabbed eight individual winners, while the women's team had 11.
Apr. 24: Capital District Classic
- Keegan Collins threw a personal record that ranked eighth overall in program history.
- The women's team swept the top three finishes in the hammer throw.
- Matai Hazel recorded personal records in both the 100m and 200m.
- Jed Elmbarki earned a first-place finish in his first ever 3000m steeplechase, which was good enough for fourth best in program history.
- Combined both teams put up over 20 personal records.
Albany, New York – University at Albany
Apr. 17: Bobbi Palma UAlbany Spring Classic
- Overall, the men's team tallied 12 event wins and the women's team put up 14 event wins.
- Beatriz Mora Herencia broke the javelin throw program record on her first and only throw of the day.
- The men's 4x100m relay team broke a nearly ten-year-old meet record, previously held by Northeastern.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – University of Pennsylvania
Apr. 23-25: Penn Relays Carnival
- Both men and women's 4x100m relay teams made history, marking the first time both relays qualified for the Championship of America Finals. It was also the first time the men's team went sub-40 seconds, and the women's team went sub-45 seconds.
- The men's 4x100 relay team beat the defending champion, Houston, on their road to the finals.
Lowell, Massachusetts – UMass Lowell
May 9-10: America East Championship
- The Great Danes traveled to New Hampshire last season where both teams took home the title of America East Champions. The women earned their 16th consecutive outdoor title. The men brought home the trophy for the 18th time in 20 championships.
- The women's 100m sprinters and 100m hurdlers swept their respective podiums.
- Jed Elmbarki put himself second in program history with a second-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase (8:54.33).
- Kate Del Gandio medaled in all of her events (heptathlon, 200m, and 100mH). She competed for a personal record in seven events - heptathlon, 200m, long jump, shot put, high jump, and javelin.
- The women topped the podium in nine events, while the men stood on the top step five times.
- Shantae Pryce was honored with the Coaches' Award.
- The men's coaching staff won Coaching Staff of the Year.
Lexington, Kentucky – University of Kentucky
May 27-30: NCAA I Preliminary Championship
- UAlbany sent a total of ten athletes, the most individual competitors in program history, to the meet hosted in Jacksonville, Florida last year.
- Beatriz Mora Herencia and Louis Gordon each qualified for nationals in their respective events.
- Louis Gordon became UAlbany's first ever regional champion.
Eugene, Oregon – University of Oregon
Jun. 10-13: NCAA I Championship
- Louis Gordon closed out his collegiate career as a two-time All-American and NCAA Championship Qualifier.
- Beatriz Mora Herencia competed in her first national championship as a freshman and will aim to make a return to Euguene this season.
