ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany's volleyball program tabbed three of four America East weekly awards following the first weekend of competition.
Freshman setter
Maria Olga Siapani opened her collegiate career with Rookie of the Week and Setter of the Week honors. Senior
Sthefany Carvalho added her first career AE Defensive Specialist of the Week award.
Helping the team go 1-2 in Florida, Siapani served as the primary setter in all three matches for the Great Danes. The freshman tallied a conference-high 8.5 assists per set earning at least 30 assists in two different matches. Hailing from Limassol, Cyprus, Siapani added 2.1 digs per set throughout 10 sets of action.
Stepping up on defense,
Sthefany Carvalho tallied her own league-best with 4.2 digs per set. The senior from Uberlandia, Brazil saw time in all 10 sets at the FGCU Classic.
The Great Danes will be back in action on Friday, September 6 as they host the UAlbany Invitational in the newly renovated PE Gym.
