GREAT DANE REWIND
- UAlbany is 9-6 headed into the conference season.
- The Great Danes started the season at NC State's Wolfpack Classic. Tallying one win in two games over Iona, UAlbany fell in both games against the ACC host.
- Continuing the season at the annual Spring Games competition, the Great Danes added a 4-1 record over the March 1-3 weekend.
- In a doubleheader, UAlbany split the results against FDU.
- Moving on with the UMBC Spring Invite (March. 15-16), the Great Danes notched a 3-1 record with games against Niagara and Wisconsin. After a shutout against each team on Saturday, UAlbany added two one-run games on Sunday, including a no-hitter against Wisconsin.
- Most recently, the Great Danes swept a doubleheader at UMass (3/27).
- Three student-athletes hold a batting average over .300 - graduate student Maddi Petrella (.388), graduate student Caitlyn Mitros (.365), and senior Jordan Nastos (.321).
- Graduate student Morgan Petty owns a team-high 17 RBI. Petrella follows with 13 RBI.
- Tied with four home runs each, Petrella and Petty lead the team in multi-base hits. Petrella leads with 11 (seven doubles, four homers) while Petty follows with seven (three doubles, four homers). Sophomore Deanna Grahek is close behind with four doubles, one triple, and one home run.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Graduate student Wendi Hammond continues to serve as the Great Danes' starting pitcher.
- Seeing the most time in the circle, Hammond leads with 66.1 innings pitched, seven complete games, and 38 strikeouts in eight wins.
- With a team-low ERA of 1.68 and five game appearances, redshirt-junior Kate Powers has gone 3-0 with 12 strikeouts this season.
- Junior Dominique Prevette has pitched for seven strikeouts in 18.1 innings pitched.
- At the UMBC Spring Invite, Powers and Hammond combined for four complete games, including two shutouts and a no-hitter. Allowing just one earned run throughout the competition, Hammond ended the weekend with a 0.00 ERA while Powers tallied a 0.64 ERA.
ABOUT MAINE
- The Black Bears are 1-21 on the season with a 0-3 conference record.
- Maine earned their first, and only, win of the season after eight losses in the Kajikawa Classic (Feb. 9-10) and the Joan Joyce Classic (Feb. 16-17).
- Starting the Blue Hen Invitational (Mar. 1-3) with a win over Delaware State, the Black Bears added two losses in Delaware before heading to the Colorado State Rams' Invitational (Mar. 9-11).
- Before beginning conference play, the Black Bears fell to Northern Colorado (3/12), Nebraska (3/12), and Boston College (3/19).
- Most recently, UMaine fell to conference leader, UMBC, in a three-game series (Mar. 22, 24).
- Katie Jo Moery leads with a .309 batting average. She also leads with five doubles and one triple.
- Gabby Papushka hit the only other Black Bear triple.
- Anna Margetis owns a team-high two home runs and eight RBI.
- Two pitchers lead with nearly or over 30 innings in the circle. Caitlyn Fallon has pitched the most with 31.1 innings but Isabelle True is close behind with 29.2. True has started a team-high seven games. Following both with 23.2 innings on the mound, Kaly Thomas holds the team-high of 19 strikeouts.
SERIES AGAINST THE BLACK BEARS
- The Great Danes lead the all-time series, 39-14.
- Throughout the 2023 season, UAlbany and Maine battled in four contests, including two during the America East Championship Tournament. After splitting the regular-season doubleheader, the Great Danes won both games in the AE tournament.
- During the doubleheader on March 31, Jordan Nastos and Maddi Petrella shared a team-high with four RBI each. Each drove in three runs in a single game with a fourth RBI in the other game.
- In the doubleheader win, 8-0, Nastos and Petrella each hit a home run while Morgan Petty added a triple.
- In each of the postseason games, Nastos and Petrella led with two RBI each.
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
- Four schools have started conference action.
- UMBC leads with three wins over Maine.
- Bryant follows the Retrievers with a 2-1 record over Binghamton.
- UAlbany and UMass Lowell will begin conference play this weekend after having to postpone their season-opening series.
