SHORT STORY: The Great Danes were unable to come back from a fifth-inning burst by the River Hawks, Wednesday afternoon.
KEY STATS
- Freshman Katie Parisi led the team with two hits, including one double, and the lone RBI. Parisi's double was her 24th of the season - a total that broke the America East single-season record.
- Senior Deanna Grahek went 3-3 and hit two doubles.
- Leadoff batter junior Taylor Quinn added two singles.
- Sophomore Hayley Wieczerzak started in the circle and struck out six batters in 4.0 innings. Freshman Julia Pike and sophomore Hailey Errichiello came in to close out the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first two innings, Hayley Wieczerzak recorded four strikeouts, two each, while the Great Dane batters recorded two hits - a Katie Parisi double in the first and a Deanna Grahek single in the second.
- Wieczerzak added two more strikeouts from the circle in the top of the third.
- Freshman Kaitlyn Parisi and Taylor Quinn hit back-to-back singles to put two on base before a sacrifice bunt from senior Sara Anderson put both runners in scoring position.
- Katie Parisi recorded an RBI with a groundout to shortstop but UML held the Great Danes to just the one run.
- After a scoreless fourth inning, the River Hawks scored six runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead.
- UMass Lowell extended their lead with one run in both the sixth and seventh innings to take the 8-1 win.
NEXT: The Great Danes will continue the 2026 America East Championship Tournament against the loser of the Binghamton/Maine game at 11 am on Thursday (May 7).
