BALTIMORE – University at Albany long stick midfielder
Jake Piseno has been named an
Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-American First Team selection, the organization announced Friday afternoon.
Â
Piseno, who started the year on the watchlist for the 2024 Tewaaraton Award, has garnered national attention throughout the team's first eight games of the season. He sits second in Division I with 2.88 caused turnovers per game, collecting 23 on the year. He's gathered 38 ground balls and has collected nine points on five goals and four assists with the long pole.
Â
The Liverpool, N.Y., native is coming off his best week of the year. Against #3 Virginia, Piseno helped shut down the Cavaliers' top player in Connor Shellenberger. He made a highlight reel caused turnover on the attackman, going over the head to strip the ball in the UAlbany zone. He finished the game with three caused turnovers, four ground balls, and two goals.
Â
Piseno followed up that game with another strong performance against Vermont on Saturday afternoon. He finished with a team-high seven ground balls and added an assist, again making waves in the lacrosse community by being put onto the man-up offense.
Â
For his efforts in both games, he was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week, The Lacrosse Network Player of the Week, and was named to the USILA Team of the Week.
Â
The Great Danes, 2-0 in America East play, travel south to take on UMBC tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
Â
IL's Media All-Americans are picked by a pool of voters who also vote in the weekly media polls. Points are assigned to first-team, second-team, third-team and honorable mention votes to form true teams of three attackmen, three midfielders, a face-off specialist, two shortstick d-middies, an LSM, three defensemen and a goalie. Players who received a significant amount of votes at their position but did not make one of the three teams were listed as Honorable Mention.
