Short Story: Shak Williams and Shavar Staats Jr. took to the track quickly after conference championships to bolster their cases for spots at NCAA Indoor Championships.
 
How it Happened

• Two Great Danes, Shak Williams and Shavar Staats Jr., visited the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island for the Fastrack Last Chance Meet to earn or solidify qualifying marks for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
• Both Williams and Staats Jr. competed in the 60m dash.  Williams' best time of the season, 6.61, ranked in a seven-way tie for 16th in the country, while Staats Jr.'s 6.71 ranked 91st.  To qualify to nationals, an individual needs to rank in the top-16 in their event among all Division I competitors.
• In the preliminary round, Williams qualified second in 6.77, while Staats Jr. just missed out on advancing, placing ninth in 7.03.
• Williams also placed second in the final, crossing the line with the same time, 6.77.

Next: National qualifiers will be announced on February 27.  UAlbany's outdoor season begins March 15.
