GREAT DANE REWIND
- UAlbany opened the 2023 season in Conway, South Carolina at the Chanticleer Showdown (Feb. 24-26) before heading to the Spring Games at Madeira Beach (Mar. 3-5).
- In a slow start to the season, the Great Danes tallied a 1-4 record at Coastal Carolina. Earning a win over Mount St. Mary's (2.25), UAlbany fell twice to host Coastal Carolina and Saint Joseph's.
- At the Spring Games, the Great Danes worked for two shutout wins over LIU (3.3) and Georgetown (3.4) but fell to Southeastern Louisiana (3.3), Creighton (3.4), and MTSU (3.5).
- In their final tournament of the season (Mar. 18-19), UAlbany went 2-1 with wins over Lafayette and a loss to the host, Mount St. Mary's.
- Returning home, the Great Danes hosted Siena (3.22) for a doubleheader sweep.
- UAlbany opened conference play with a doubleheader sweep over UMass Lowell (3.26) before splitting a doubleheader at Maine (3.31)
- ??Most recently, UAlbany fell 1-2 in a three-game series at Binghamton (Apr. 8-9) after splitting a midweek doubleheader at Army (4.5).
AT THE PLATE
- Starting all 22 games, senior Morgan Petty owns a team-high 31 hits, including four home runs and four doubles for 20 RBI, to lead the team with a .397 batting average.
- Freshman Sara Anderson follows closely with a .388 batting average in 17 starts.
- Junior Jordan Nastos leads with five doubles while following directly behind Petty with three home runs, 18 RBI, and 27 hits.
- In addition to Nastos and Petty, sophomore Sierra Fretz and senior Maddi Petrella have totaled two homers each.
- Three Great Danes have totaled at least one double, one triple, and one home run - Petty (four 2B, one 3B, and four HR), Fretz (four 2B, one 3B, and two HR), and Petrella (one 2B, one 3B, and two HR).
- Seniors Caitlyn Mitros and Wendi Hammond have added one triple each while freshman Deanna Grahek (3), graduate student Chloe Lewis (2), and senior Schuyler Ossman (2) own multiple doubles with their respective totals.
IN THE FIELD
- Chloe Lewis leads the defense with 103 putouts.
- Jordan Nastos leads with 40 assists with Deanna Grahek (39) and Sara Anderson (38) close behind.
- Eight Great Danes have contributed to at least one double-play. Grahek leads with nine and Lewis follows with six. Jordan Nastos has five and Sierra Fretz has four, while Maddi Petrella and Anderson have tallied two each. Wendi Hammond and sophomore Christie Collins round it out with one each.
- All five Great Dane pitchers have seen the circle.
- Wendi Hammond has seen the most time with 89.0 innings pitched and 44 strikeouts. She has pitched 10 complete games, including two shutouts, with 14 starts for a 2.99 ERA and a 7-7 record in the circle.
- Redshirt-sophomore Kate Powers saw her first collegiate no-hitter in a six-inning victory over Maine. In total, she has pitched 35.2 innings with 21 strikeouts in three complete games for a 4-1 record in the circle.
- Sophomore Amelia Freitas has totaled two starts while pitching 19.0 innings for a 1-2 record in the circle.
- Lewis and senior Adian Sheeren have a combined 12.1 IP and six strikeouts.

ABOUT SYRACUSE
- The Orange is 12-18-1 on the season with a 3-10-1 conference record.
- Seeing three early-season tournaments - River City Leadoff (Feb. 10-12), Big Ten/ACC Challenge (Feb. 17-19), and Low Country Classic (Feb. 24-26) - Syracuse earned a 6-6 record before falling in a three-game series, the first of the conference season, at #4 Clemson (Mar. 4-5).
- In the final tournament of the season, Lance Up Invite (Mar. 10-12), the Orange added one win and two losses.
- After going 0-3 at #6 Florida State (Mar. 17-19), Syracuse swept a doubleheader at Canisius (3.22).
- The Orange won their first ACC game in a three-game series at Notre Dame (3.26). After a weather delay, Syracuse called their program's second tie in history against the Fighting Irish (3.26).
- Most recently, the Orange faced Louisville (4.1) and NC State (Apr. 6-8) in two home conference series. After falling in a doubleheader against the Cardinals, Syracuse went 2-1 against the Wolfpack.
- Madelyn Lopez leads the team with a .348 batting average and two triples.
- Kelly Breen has compiled a team-high 13 RBI from 19 hits, including three home runs and two doubles.
- Of the 11 players who have hit at least one double, Angel Jasso leads with five.
- In the circle, Syracuse has played four pitchers with two seeing over 70 innings of action.
- Madison Knight leads with a 3.81 ERA and 58 strikeouts but Lindsey Hendrix has spent the most time in the circle (79.2 IP) with 16 starts and four complete games.
- In the field, two players lead with over 100 putouts - Tessa Galipeau (134) and Laila Alves (120). Rebecca Clyde owns a team-high 59 assists.
- As a team, the Orange has notched four double plays.
SERIES AGAINST THE ORANGE
- Syracuse and UAlbany have met just once in program history.
- In 2021, the two teams met in Albany as the Orange took a 10-6 win in a single game on April 27.
- Maddi Petrella drove in the first run of the contest before totaling three RBI from two total hits, including one home run.
- Current Great Danes Morgan Petty, Caitlyn Mitros, Chloe Lewis, and Wendi Hammond all saw time in the field. Lewis added UAlbany's second, and final, home run while Petty totaled one RBI and two runs with one triple and Mitros notched one hit.
- As a relief pitcher, Hammond saw 5.1 innings in the circle and totaled five strikeouts.
PICKED THIRD
- The Great Danes were picked to finish third in the 2023 America East Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- UAlbany tallied 17 points and no first-place votes.
- UMBC topped the poll with 35 points and five first-place votes while UMass Lowell followed with 20 points and one first-place vote.
- Binghamton, with 16 points, grabbed the final first-place vote. Bryant and Maine tied for fifth with seven points.
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
- After three weekends of conference play, UMBC holds a strong lead with a 7-1 record.
- UAlbany follows as the only remaining team with a winning conference record - 4-3.
- Binghamton sits even at .500 with four wins and four losses.
- Bryant is tied with Binghamton and UAlbany with four wins but sits in fourth with five losses.
- UMass Lowell (3-5) and Maine 2-6) round out the conference.
