How it Happened
  • UAlbany women's lacrosse returned to the road on Wednesday for its annual matchup against Syracuse.  The Great Danes had won each of their last two to climb to .500 on the season, while the second-ranked Orange were unbeaten in its first four games, with victories over #4 Northwestern and #2 Maryland.
  • Syracuse scored first, just over a minute into the game.  After two Orange turnovers in UAlbany territory, the Great Danes broke through when Allie Maloney found Ava Poupard right in front of the Syracuse goal to tie the game at one with 11:39 to go in the first.
  • Syracuse rolled off each of the next 12 goals, including scoring the next five over a period of two minutes and 21 seconds.  The Orange led 11-1 at the end of the first quarter, and had recorded an assist on 10 of its first 11 scores.
  • Shonly Wallace scored, unassisted, with 4:47 left in the second quarter to end Syracuse's run.  The Orange scored once more before halftime to take a 14-2 lead into the break.
  • Syracuse outscored UAlbany 5-0 in the third quarter, building their lead to 19-2.  Ultimately, the Orange's run grew to 7-0 before Bryar Hogg scored with 11:07 remaining in the fourth.
  • The Orange scored twice more to reach 22 goals for the afternoon, before UAlbany scored on consecutive free position attempts to finish the day with five goals.
  • Wallace finished with two goals and an assist for the Great Danes, while Mia Brunken, UAlbany's final goal-scorer of the day, secured her first goal of the season.
