Vitiello '18 Wins USL Championship Golden Glove

TAMPA, Fla. – Former University at Albany men's soccer goalkeeper has won the 2023 USL Championship Golden Glove award, recognizing the league's most outstanding goalkeeper in each season.  It is the second such award of Vitiello's USL Championship career.

Vitiello previously won the award in 2020 as a member of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.  This season, for Sacramento Republic FC, Vitiello led all eligible goalkeepers with a .762 save percentage, and allowed just 0.83 goals-against per game in 30 appearances.  Sacramento, behind Vitiello's play in net, earned the top seed in the Western Conference for the 2023 USL Playoffs.

Vitiello left his mark as one of the most formidable goalkeepers in UAlbany history.  Upon his graduation, he held the program record for goalkeeper victories with 31, and shutouts with 24.  He ranks second in goalkeeper games played with 60, and is one of two players with a goals-against average less than 1.00.  Finally, Vitiello ranks fifth in program history in total saves, 221, and save percentage, .784.

Vitiello's Sacramento Republic FC and his former Great Danes teammate Daniel Krutzen with Phoenix Rising FC both qualified for the USL Championship postseason, which begins Saturday, October 21.
