CHESTER, Pa. – For the third-straight season, the Chaos LC, featuring former Great Danes Blaze Riorden and Troy Reh, have advanced to the Premier Lacrosse League championship game. On Sunday, the will face off against the Waterdogs LC.
Â
The Chaos are the defending PLL champions, knocking off two-time title-winners Whipsnakes LC a year ago. Riorden, fresh off his league MVP and Goalkeeper of the Year campaign, was named championship game MVP, recording 15 saves in the cage.
Â
Though Riorden and Reh are the only former Great Danes on the Chaos' active roster for the playoffs, the season started with the Chaos boasting five total players from UAlbany on the active or reserve rosters, with Ty Thompson, Joe Resetarits, and
Tehoka Nanticoke making up the difference. No other team in the league had more than one Great Dane on their active or reserve rosters.
Â
The Chaos went 2-8 during the regular season but have turned their fortunes around in the playoffs. First, the Chaos defeated the second-seeded Chrome decisively, 11-3, behind 15 saves from Riorden. Next, they outlasted the third-seeded Archers and former Great Dane Connor Fields.  Riorden made 13 saves in the semifinal, allowing Fields just one goal.
Â
Riorden has made 137 saves this season at a rate of 54%, ranking first and tied for third in each respective category in the PLL. Reh has been a staple for the Chaos defensively, forcing seven turnovers and recovering 26 ground balls.
Â
The Waterdogs, the top seed in last year's playoffs, make their first title game appearance after finishing fifth this season behind a 5-5 regular-season record. The Waterdogs defeated the fourth-seeded Atlas, featuring 2022 MVP and Faceoff Player of the Year Trevor Baptiste, in the quarterfinals, before upsetting the top-seeded Whipsnakes in the semifinals, denying the Whipsnakes their fourth appearance in the finals.
Â
The Chaos and Waterdogs played just once during the regular season. The Waterdogs won 18-9 in Baltimore in June. Reh recorded two ground balls and caused one turnover while Riorden made 12 saves.
Â
The 2022 PLL title game is scheduled for 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 18 and can be viewed live on ABC and ESPN+.
