LIMERICK, Ireland – Six current members of the University at Albany men's lacrosse program will compete in the 2022 World Lacrosse Men's U21 World Championship from August 10-20 at the University of Limerick in Ireland.
Â
UAlbany associate head coach
Merrick Thomson will assume coaching duties for Team Canada. The Canadian roster also features UAlbany attack
Graydon Hogg. Hogg's sister, Bryar, was on the Canadian National Team's senior roster earlier this summer for the Women's World Championship in Towson, Md.
Â
Additionally, four Great Danes will compete for the Haudenosaunee National Team:
Jake Piseno,
Keelan Seneca,
Jack VanValkenburgh and
Amos Whitcomb.
Â
The tournament began as a U19 event but was reclassified in 2020 to include change the upper age of playing eligibility to U20. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic delaying the event, the upper age limit was further extended to U21 for this cycle.
Â
Twenty-three teams will participate in the U21 World Championship, divided into five groups. Group A included Canada and Haudenosaunee, as well as the United States, England, and Australia.
Â
More than 500 athletes will compete in 86 games over the course of the 11-day tournament. Pool play begins August 10, and the knockout round begins August 16. The title game is scheduled for August 20.
Â
Twenty-two of the tournament's 86 games will be broadcast in partnership with ESPN, with the semifinals and finals airing on ESPNU in the United States.
