Volleyball Adds Three

ALBANY, N.Y. – Following an initial signing class of four, the University at Albany women's volleyball program and head coach Josh Pickard have announced the signing of three additional players to round out the 2021 recruiting class.
 
The three players will join the four who signed last November: Oren Abutbul, Lilou Stegeman, Elaina Wamhoff, and Anissia Wong.

Ellie Benedict

Quick Facts: Ellie played club volleyball with Paradigm Revolution.  She was named to the 2020 Under Armour All-America and the 2019 AVCA Phenom watch lists.  She has earned First Team All-Country and Second Team All-State honors during her career, and has been named to the Section V All-Tournament and to the All-Greater Rochester First Teams.
 
Pickard on Benedict: "It's always great to be able to keep New York talent in New York.  Ellie brings a calming presence and great size to our defensive group.  She has tons of energy and will fit in great to the Purple Fam."

Delaney Foerster

Quick Facts: Delaney played club volleyball for Northern Lights.  In 2018 and 2019, her team was Minnesota State runner-up.  Her U16 club team placed third at national championships in the USA Division.  She has earned All-Conference honorable mention and Academic All-State honors, as well as earning AAU Volleyball Academic All-America honors.
 
Pickard on Foerster: "Delaney comes to us from Minnesota and a stellar volleyball background. She has ball control and an arm which will make her very valuable to us.  We are looking forward to her winning history and the competitiveness she brings to our program."
 
Shynelle Woroniuk: 6-0 | OH | Red Deer, Alberta | École Secondaire Notre Dame High School

Shynelle Woroniuk

Quick Facts: Shynelle was selected as a top-16 player in Canada, earning the honor of training full-time at the National Excellence program at Canada's National Training Centre in Richmond, B.C.  She spent two seasons on Team Alberta as a left side, serving as team captain in her second year.  In 2019, she was named MVP of her high school league.  When she was 14, she played on the Central Alberta Queens Volleyball Club U18 team, finishing fourth at Provincial Championships.  During her high school career, she was named Female Athlete of the Year as a freshman, sophomore, and junior.  She also played badminton, winning a gold medal at her Provincial Championships, and competed in track & field in the high jump, triple jump, hurdles, and javelin, placing third at Provincial Championships in the high jump in 2019.
 
Pickard on Woroniuk: "Shynelle is a stellar athlete coming to the Great Danes from north of the border.  From the first time we saw her in action we knew she had a six-rotation presence and could help us offensively and defensively.  We are looking forward to having someone with her experience in our gym."
