Short Story:Â The University at Albany softball team completed a three-game sweep of America East Rival Hartford after winning both games of Saturday's doubleheader. Strong pitching got the job done for UAlbany, with
Briana Garrett and
Wendi Hammond combining to allow only two runs all afternoon. After yesterday's 1-0 win in twelve innings, the bats came alive in both games as the Great Danes totaled 11 runs on 18 hits.
Key Stats Game One:
- Garrett started in the circle for UAlbany, tossing all five innings while allowing just a single run. She finished giving up just four hits with three strikeouts.
- Katie Falotico, Madison Petrella, Chloe Lewis and Lové Drumgole all finished with two hits each.
- Lewis, Drumgole and Morgan Petty all led the way with two RBIs each. Petty was the catalyst of the scoring run for the Great Danes in the first with a two-run homerun to left field.
- Nine different Great Danes crossed the plate to score runs throughout the game.
Key Stats Game Two:
- Hammond started for UAlbany in game two. The sophomore hurler tossed all seven innings, allowing just the one run on five hits. She struck out seven in the process.
- Kelly Barkevich led the way in hits for UAlbany in game two with two. Also collecting hits was Falotico, Garrett, Alexis Phillips and Caitlyn Mitros.
- UAlbany's runs came of the bats of Garrett and Morgan Petty.
- Madison Petrella reached base twice via walk.
How it Happened Game One:
- Petty got the ball rolling early, wasting no time and sending one over the left field fence for two RBIs, scoring Phillips. Driver then put the Great Danes up 3-0 off of a fielder's choice with the bases loaded, scoring Petrella. Lewis followed her the next at bat, sending a single up the middle to score Mitros from second to make it 4-0. The final run of the inning came off the bat of Drumgole, sending another ball up the middle to score Driver.
- Petrella added another run in the second, scoring Falotico with a double down the right field line.
- UAlbany saw three more runs cross the plate in the third to increase the lead to nine runs. Lewis doubled to score Srokowski, Drumgole doubled to score Lewis, and Falotico singled to score Drumgole.
- The Hawks were able to score a run in the fourth thanks to a deep RBI double off the bat of Nagel.
How it Happened Game Two:
- UAlbany was able to grab the first run of the game after Petty reached on an error from Hartford's right fielder. Falotico scored to put the Great Danes up one with the unearned run.
- Run number two crossed the plate for UAlbany in the fourth. Garrett hit a soft ground ball to the pitcher, who hesitated, and was not in time for the play at the plate with Barkevich scoring from third. Â
- Hartford got on the board in the fifth inning off of an RBI single from Rocheleau.
Next:Â UAlbany has a short turnaround to start the week. New York rival Syracuse is scheduled to visit Albany Field this Tuesday, April 27, for a doubleheader between the two Empire State schools. First pitch of game one is set for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
