Bigsby, Napier Named Performers of the Week

BOSTON – The University at Albany track & field team pulled down two of the four final indoor weekly awards following the conclusion of the 2019-20 indoor regular season, the America East announced Tuesday.  Shelby Bigsby was named Women's Field Performer of the Week and Garfield Napier was named Men's Track Performer of the Week.  They were named alongside UMass Lowell's Kaley Richards, named for women's track, and Hartford's Terrel Davis, named for men's field.

Bigsby, a sophomore thrower from Montclair, N.J., earned two top-10 finishes last weekend at the Tyson Invitation at the University of Arkansas.  In the shot put, Bigsby placed seventh with a season-best mark of 48-00.75, taking over the America East lead from her teammate Shania Scott.  In the weight throw, Bigsby placed 10th with a mark of 56-00.00

Also competing in the Tyson Invitational, Napier, a junior sprinter from Brooklyn, N.Y., earned his spot in the 60m dash after qualifying 10th in 6.82.  In the following preliminary round, Napier placed 17th overall in a personal-best 6.79.  Napier's new best time ranks second in program history behind sprint coach Junior Burnett's 6.77 from 2007.  Napier already holds the program record for the 100m dash, 10.54.

UAlbany returns to the Track and Tennis Center at Boston University for the America East Indoor Championships this weekend.
